How to Stop a Vehicle with a Stuck Throttle

With all of the recent news coverage on runaway vehicles, we thought it would be appropriate to provide guidance on how to stop a vehicle with a stuck throttle. Especially since many drivers are unaware of this simple procedure.

Here is the procedure as outlined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a February 10, 2010 Consumer Advisory titled "NHTSA's Advice to Toyota Customers."

Brake firmly and steadily -- do not pump the brake pedal.

Shift the transmission into Neutral.

Steer to a safe location.

Shut the engine off.

Call your dealer or repair shop to pick up the vehicle. Do not drive it.

We hope this information is helpful to you and your families. Drive safely.

The place to pass

On curves

You know

Is only at

A beauty show!

He tried

To cross

As fast train neared

Death didn't draft him

He volunteered!
