We investigate to determine if the steering and/or ignition lock systems were defeated, and we reconstruct the condition of the engine and transmission prior to the fire through tear-down and visual examination of the engine and transmission components, as well as laboratory analysis of the engine oil and transmission fluid. In some cases we have found that a “stolen” vehicle could not have been driven to the scene of the fire, due to the extent of engine and/or transmission damage that preceded the fire!
